Beets

Look what I just picked yesterday. I am so excited about these. So far, beets have been the easiest vegetables I have ever raised from seed. Nearly all of the seeds I planted germinated, and I even direct seeded them. I have not yet eaten the beets themselves, but I had the greens for lunch, and they were great!

I have been shopping hard on craigslist for a bike and a bike trailer. I was even considering buying a new trailer simply because I couldn't find a used one that I actually wanted. So I put up a want add on cl, and I got two responses. One for an InStep model that I didn't really want, and the other for a new Burley (make an offer). I didn't have time to get back with the Burley guy for a few days, but I called him on Sunday and left a message. I didn't hear back from him, but I decided to try him again yesterday. We talked about the trailer, and he said he was thinking $120 is what he would like to get for it!!! Seriously? It's a Burley D'lite. Brand new. Those things are selling well used on Ebay for over $200, and new ones are over $400. So I got it. Its in the garage now. I bought bike helmets for me and the kids, and we are pretty much ready to go. I just need to get a wheel for it so I can convert it to a stroller.

I am really excited about this. I am totally not excited about wearing a bike helmet.

My first day at Costco

So, today was my first real day at Costco as a pharmacist. I had orientation about a month ago, but thatwas just paperwork. Today was an ok day. The people I work with are really nice, both inside and outside of the pharmacy. But I have so much stuff to learn in order to master all the procedures and the computer system. Honestly, I am really stressed out about it. I have my first full day on Saturday. It will just be me and two very knowledgable technicians in the pharmacy that day from 9:30am until 6pm. Wish me luck.

I am also going to start working for Target because I can't get enough hours at Costco. I feel excited about that, too. But I am a bit afraid that when it comes down to it, I will be just as nervous. Plus, red is not my best color.

I have almost given up on blogging. Its just that, I am more of a private journal type of person. It just feels like a chore to me most of the time. Don't hate me. But here goes anyway. Here are some of the goings on around here.

I am going back to work, part-time, for Costco pharmacy. I have my orientation tomorrow. I will be working mostly on Saturdays so that we won't have to worry about childcare. I really hope I like it. This is a big change for me. I worked at a mail order pharmacy for 10 years before I quit entirely in 2006. So, I have not worked in a mail order pharmacy in quite a while. It is a little unnerving knowing that I will be the only pharmacist there. I like having someone else's opinion to ask. Plus, there will be a lot of standing. That part I really hate.

We are growing a few new things in our garden this year which we have not tried growing before. Beets, green beans, kale, broccoli raab, swiss chard. It is the broccoli raab that excites me the most. It is my favorite thing to eat. I am actually not certain that I can plant it this season, though. I may be too late, and I just found the seeds yesterday. I need to research that to see if it is like the other cool weather crops where you can plant them in mid-summer for a fall harvest.

I am sure there is more, but Gabe is calling me.

Evelyn's 4th birthday

Some recent photos from Evelyn's 4th birthday party. It was so much fun. Evelyn requested that she have her own cake (even though we were doing cupcakes), and she wanted strawberry frosting with sprinkles.

Gabe and Evelyn at the party. Joe is in the background. Gabe is doing this thing right now where he smiles these HUGE exaggerated smiles. So adorable.

Seriously, why couldn't this snow have come in January? I still love snow, anyway. I love how everything slows way down. It feels like vacation to me. And, I love shovelling snow. It is one of the few tasks in my life that does not IMMEDIATELY reappear on my to-do list the second I cross it off. And, when you are done, your accomplishment is so easy to see. Very satisfying.
